It was late Sunday afternoon when the vehicle of local model Sarah Sloan was struck in the side by a Mercury that lost control on black ice. Sloan was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after paramedics arrived on the scene. While stabilized through Monday, she never left the intensive care unit. She was pronounced dead at 6:17 pm on Monday night, as a direct result of injuries sustained in the accident.

Sloan was an aspiring actress and model, who had recently received major publicity for a Gap photo shoot done before Christmas. A follow up offer was expected to be made in the coming weeks. Sloan was returning from dinner with out-of-state relatives when her vehicle was impacted and turned over. Personnel on the scene estimate the Mercury was driving at a speed of over 50 mph. when it hit the ice and skid through the intersection. The vehicle was stolen approximately fifteen minutes before the accident took place, and the driver, who seemed to retain consciousness, left the scene before police and medical personnel arrived.

At first considered a hit and run, an autopsy has since revealed that Sloan was almost four weeks pregnant. Due to the nature of the crime, investigators have considered it a double homicide, though no suspects have been questioned at this time.

Sloan is survived by her mother, Diane, and her father, Greg, as well as her fiancé, Trevor Knight, a professional wrestler and also a Chicago native. Neither Knight, nor any friends or family were aware of the pregnancy, and it is believed that Sloan was unaware as well, as she had at least one glass of wine with dinner on Sunday. Family members declined further comment as of the time of this writing.

Considered a caring and giving person by friends and family, this tragic accident has hit the community hard and many are crying for justice. Investigators are rampantly searching for any evidence as to the driver of the stolen Mercury, and urge anyone with any information to come forward as soon possible. Calling hours for Sloan are Wednesday night at 6:00pm at Augustine Funeral Home, with a service to take place this Sunday, at a location yet to be determined.
